Have You Asked the One Who Knows?
"Then Jesus went back full of and under the power of the Holy Spirit to Galilee, and the fame of Him spread throughout the whole region round about." Luke 4:14 (AMP)
So much happens in Luke 4. Jesus begins His ministry with a 40 day stay in the wilderness being tempted by Satan and withstanding all temptations. Next, He goes to Galilee and teaches in their synagogues. He's recognized and honored and praised by all.
Then He goes to Nazareth, and in the synagogue reads Isa. 61:1-2 and then tells everyone that "Today this scripture has been fulfilled while you were present and hearing." (v. 21) And before the conversation is over, they townspeople try to kill him by throwing him over a cliff, because no prophet is welcome and accepted in his own town. (v. 24)
Next, he goes back to Capernaum, to the town of Galilee, again teaching in their synagogues and they are amazed at His teaching. He speaks with words of authority, weight and power. He casts out demons.
He goes to Peter's house and heals his mother-in-law and that night as Sabbath ends, all who had sick were brought to Him and He laid His hands on everyone and healed them. (v. 40)
At daybreak, He goes to an isolated place. The people come looking for him. They want Him to stay, but he tells them that He must preach the good news of the Kingdom of God to the other cities also, for He was sent for this purpose (v. 43).
Jesus:
- withstands temptations
- teaches with authority
- casts out demons
- heals the sick
- does the will of His Father
When we ask Jesus to be our Savior and Lord, when we turn away from our sin and follow Him, Jesus promises us the same Holy Spirit that filled Him will come and reside in us. Jesus "full of and under the power of the Holy Spirit" knew where to go, what to say, and what to do.
How often do we say yes or no without asking the one who knows what's best? Without asking the Holy Spirit? Is this the direction You would have me to go?
How ofter do we speak without thinking? Holy Spirit is now the time for me to speak up or be quiet?
How often do we make our plans without asking the One who knows what is best for us? Holy Spirit, I humbly ask that You direct my steps today.
Father, help us to remember Your Holy Spirit is in us ready to guide us if we will but ask. Help us to ask. In Jesus Name we pray, Amen.
