Merciful and Kind, Speaks Truth - Does This Describe You?

Let not mercy and kindness [shutting out of all hatred and selfishness] and truth [shutting out all deliberate hypocrisy or falsehood] forsake you; bind them about your neck, write them upon the tablet of your heart. Proverbs 3:3 AMP

Acts of kindness. I can smile and say hello to the people I meet when I am out and about. Hold the door for people who have their hands full. I can also plan acts of kindness. Who do I know could use a homemade meal or an encouraging note? Am I looking for opportunities to show kindness to anyone besides myself?

Acts of mercy--Oxford languages defines mercy as compassion or forgiveness shown toward someone whom it is within one’s power to punish or harm. Who is within my power to punish or harm? My spouse, children, friends, neighbors, coworkers. Do I choose compassion and forgiveness or irritation?

Truth. These days, it seems like many people say what they want and then call it “their truth.”  Not so. Christ followers, we must stand up for Truth. In a lost world, we must stand for Truth. And what is Truth? God’s Word. John 1 describes God's Word as God Himself, Life, and the Light. Am I hiding God's Word in my heart? Am I standing up and speaking out for Truth?

Lord, help me to remember that one day I will stand before the judgement seat of Christ, so that I may receive according to what I have done in the body, whether good or evil. Help me to forsake not mercy, kindness, and truth. Help me to bind them about my neck and write them on the tablet of my heart. Thank You for Your Word.
